SmartPak Assists Equine Rescue Efforts in California

Posted on: February 05, 2025 by SmartPak

At SmartPak, we believe in stepping up for horses in need. In the wake of the devastating wildfires in California, we have partnered with incredible organizations to help equine rescues provide essential care to affected horses. So far, we’ve donated over 600lbs of respiratory support supplements, and we’re committed to expanding our support to additional rescues in the region.

Who We’re Helping

We’re honored to assist the following organizations in their ongoing rescue and recovery efforts:

  • Fleet of Angels – Dedicated to providing emergency transportation, shelter, and supplies to equines in crisis.
  • CPHA Foundation – Offering financial and logistical support to equestrians affected by natural disasters.
  • Win Place Home – A rescue and rehabilitation organization focused on rehoming off-the-track Thoroughbreds and providing them with a second chance.

How You Can Help

Looking to find ways to help horses affected by wildfires? Or looking for additional resources for support? There are a number of organizations at the ready:

Volunteer Assistance

  • Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control – Coordinating evacuation shelters for large and small animals. They need volunteers with equine and livestock experience to help feed and care for over 200 evacuated horses. To volunteer, email volunteer@animalcare.lacounty.gov and wait for instructions before arriving.

Financial Support

  • Equestrian Aid Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund – Provides emergency grants to help affected individuals cover essential costs. You can apply for grants or donate.
  • USEF Disaster Relief Fund – Managed by the U.S. Equestrian Association to help horses affected by natural disasters.
  • LA Animal Services – Runs six city shelters in Los Angeles and coordinates evacuation shelters for large and small animals.

Protecting Your Horses From Wildfire Smoke

Wildfire smoke can have serious health implications for horses, from respiratory distress to long-term lung damage. To help horse owners navigate these challenges, we’ve put together a guide on air quality and wildfire smoke inhalation in horses as well as a helpful air quality index chart for quick reference.

Looking Ahead

At SmartPak, our passion for horse health drives everything we do. As we continue our efforts, we remain committed to helping horses and their owners through both immediate relief efforts and long-term support. If you know of an equine rescue in need of assistance, please reach out—we want to help.[BL8] [JB9]
