A cure for a girthy mare
My Rocky Mountain mare became girthy after a bout of antibiotics. This girth fixed her right up (along with acupressure and laser treatments for flatulent colic). At first, she still resisted girthing, but she figured out that it's no longer uncomfortable and no.longer reacts. I'm using the leather version (fleece is too bulky and gets too gritty in my environment). The girth is made from top quality leather and cleans up like new after a year of regular mountain trail riding. The price made me gasp, but I'm glad I forked over the money.

Best girth for Iberian Horses and Lipizzaners
I purchased this girth a few years ago for my Lipizzaner mare. It was the only girth that has ever fit her without rubbing. Likewise, it is perfect for my PRE and I have spread the about how well it works for Iberian horses and big barreled horses. Definitely worth the cost and the fleece liner cleans beautifully. Sizing seems funny at first but it is designed to be tightened and have some space between buckles and dressage saddle pad. Only caveat, do NOT use the second set of keepers to thread billets through, they are designed as part of the stretch system and will tear off.

Just get it.
I purchased this girth a month ago after YEARS of talking myself out of it (I don't REALLY need it etc). My young horse is sensitive to the type of girth I use AND is a kind of weird fit. I had settled on a crescent shaped ovation girth. The TSF style "shaped" girths do NOT work for her. As she's growing she's had issues off and on with the saddle coming forward too. For reference she is a 16.2 percheron x with larger withers than you'd think, short coupled with a big barrel but narrower athletic shoulders and uphill movement.
This girth 1) magically stopped the saddle slipping forward (I got a 34" Anthracite-Black fleece version) and 2) makes her VERY happy when girthing up (no she doesn't have ulcers). I was worried the largest size might be too small and the pad part ALMOST is (see pictures) but she is very happy. I was concerned about the two narrow straps digging into her sides.... they don't even touch her! I'm able to leave the girth surprisingly both "loose" and tight at the same time, she's a BIG fan of that. For reference she wears a SOLID 56" long girth. The product is holding up well and is very easy to clean. I also read that the keepers are "worthless"..... I think the person that wrote that review doesn't know how to use keepers as they're great (and I'm PICKY!). Stop thinking about it and get the girth.

Stubben Equisoft Girth
Fair Warning, Folks: DO NOT BUY THIS GIRTH! DO NOT COUNT ON SMART-PAK TO MAKE GOOD ON A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT (even if it costs $300) AFTER 1 YEAR. If it falls apart is 13 months it is your tough luck. The sad part is that my sensitive mare loved this girth, but that doesn’t do much good if the workmanship is poor.

Solved my "girthy" problems
I had tried four other girths and a bunch of ulcer medication and nothing worked. I tried this girth and my horse has never reacted to tightening the girth. I have been using it exclusively for three years and it still looks pretty good.

POOR QUALITY!
I have been eyeballing this girth for years, the whole time achnowledging to myself the girth might not really end up beiing as good an idea as it appears in photos. There has also been the curiosity of trying an interesting new equine gadget that might actually make my horse's life better. Wow, what a let down after getting the girth!
The let down is in workmanship! Talk about a bulky, hard edged piece of poor wormanship! While a super soft and squishy girth may fail to control the placement of pressure, this girth is hard. Yes, the edges are blunt, but they are hard and bulky. Even with padding, those hard edges of the leather girth are just going to press the edges of the padding into my horse's girth region. Now let's talk about that padding! While I wanted the neoprene version, SmartPak does not offer it so I purchased a fleece Equi-soft. Ugh! Makes the edges bulk more. Also, the fleece is all folded under so that the velcro can barely connect. While the pressure of it girthed up will hold the girth together, for that amount of money, I would like the item to WORK as described and expected. We all know how "Hook and Loop" collects debris. Well, on this girth the collected debris is the fleece itself.
Due to the poor workmanship, I am returning the girth without even a single ride in it, yet there is one positive thing I can say about it: it was a pleasure to put on! Really! It girthed up easily. I could instantly feel the point where the elastic became snug and even after handwalking there was no temptation to tighten more. I could feel a pleasant give.
I could also feel the constriction was tighter in the front 1/3 of the girth and not snug in the outer 1/3. Good? Bad? Did not ride in it so I cannot say.
For perspective, my Iberian, draft horse cross is a very average, 1100 pound horse.
Regardless, Thanks SmartPak for your return policy and ongoing excellent customer care!

Very well made
The quality of this girth is excellent. I did not see a dramatic change in my mare after starting to use it, but she does seem to possibly be finding it easier to round her back, and bend. My saddle also seems to be staying in place. My mare definitely does not find it uncomfortable, and I haven't observed any rubbing.

caused chafing
Even when properly adjusting this girth equally on either side, my horse was rubbed raw on each side.

My mare prefers this girth to TSF
My Friesian cross mare who is extremely sensitive has responded well to this girth. She absolutely dislike the TSF stretchtech shoulder relief girth in black wool fleece. I had gotten the TSF girth in both neoprene as well as black wool fleece. I got such a negative response from the black wool fleece that I did not check neoprene version. Also, someone else at the barn had the stubben equi-soft girth in leather which I tested on her with a great response. So I just went with that and have been extremely pleased with the stubben girth. i really liked the TSF stretchtec concept and wish I had tried it in leather to provide them with a fair review.

Thoughtful Design; Does the Job
My fussy friesian has a very forward girth spot and he has always required expensive high maintenance sheepskin contour girths. I also had to tighten those girths to keep my saddle from slipping. No one was happy. I bought the Stubben girth on a SP sale (thank you!) and decided to try the leather version. There is no pinching, no girth bulk near his elbows no sores, easy to wipe off and although I can easily get my fingers under the girthing straps, my saddle does not slip. Most importantly, my boy doesn't turn around and look at me when I tack up and he gives me his amazing huge over step walk again. Worth the price.
