Rated 5 out of 5 by Shelly from BEST HOCK BOOTS EVER! My pony is on stall rest for an injury and developed a horrible hock sore that had swollen and gotten infected. Wrapping wasn't working, the other neoprene boots I tried tore, but these Hock Shields are THE BEST. They stay on 24/7, comfortable to wear, protect the hock and after using them for almost a month are still in GREAT condition - no wear/tear! I'm impressed. And no more hock sores :)

It has helped my horses hock sores heal however, I've only been using them for about 3 weeks and they have stretched so much that I had to cut the inside tabs completelyoff. The black outer material has also torn where the velcro is sewn.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Barbara from Slipped off on one side every day One side would always slip off. I think my horse tends to get up on one side of her body and one boot would always slip off. The elastic seems to wear out a bit fast too. The material is good quality, real sheep wool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Spot from Hock sores FINALLY healed! My horses are turned out 24/7, and my mare chooses to sleep in the cozy sand pile in the paddock. Unfortunately that resulted in hock sores that would not heal no matter what cream/spray/wash/magic goo I used to treated the wounds. After reading the other great reviews, I decided to give these a try. There is a bit of a learning curve on applying these correctly at the proper tightness. There are a lot of Velcro straps that can be a bit fiddly to get on just right, but those straps are also the key to the brilliant stay-put design. First night, one boot came off but I attribute that to operator error. Next night, both boots stayed on and I was amazed at how much improved the sores already were, no healing creams needed. Within a week of nightly use sores were finally completely healed and hair started to regrow. They are a bit of an investment, but I surely spent several times more money on various healing salves that didn't work for this specific type of wound. The only time I seem to have trouble keeping these on overnight is when my mare is in heat, they end up around her ankles by morning, so I am very suspicious that a certain flirtatious gelding is to blame for their removal. To be fair, the instructions do specify that they aren't meant for turnout use, so I can't hold this against them. Probably time to experiment with a bitter apple type of product...

Rated 3 out of 5 by Juliet from Great product, as long as you don't wash them I loved this product - to my surprise, they stayed on great - even while rolling - and my horse doesn't mind wearing them at all. For the first time in a long time, his hocks are healed and look fabulous. But...after a month of use, I threw them in the washing machine, only to find afterwards that one had about a 5" tear through both the outer cover and the lining. Very disappointing. So I do recommend these - hesitatingly - because they apparently are not machine-washable (and seriously, what horse product doesn't need to be washed?!), but they do work as advertised, even if only for a short period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jenna e from Love them These are amazing. I have a OTTB and the small/medium fit great. I have had no problems with them slipping. They’re in the same place I left them every time I see her. My horse is a mess. She’s not graceful at all and she gets herself so dirty I often ask “how did you even manage to get like this?!” Despite all of that working against them, they are miraculously still clean and slowly healing the persistent bed sores I couldn’t get rid of with ointment. I’m sold.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Carole from Disappointed I had high hopes for these jock shields after reading the description but was quickly disappointed. THEY DO NOT STAY UP! Within minutes they had slipped down around my horse's ankles. No matter how tight I made them, they won't stay up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Barbara from Excellent product! This is the first piece of equipment that has alleviated the hock sores on my 18h Cleveland Bay. He loves to lie down and roll in the sand, and inevitably gives himself terrible hock sores in doing so. But not any more! And they even made them big enough to accommodate his oversized self. What a great product!
