#TeamSmartPak Series: Jim and Deanna Searles (Circle S Ranch)

Jim and Deanna Searles are a powerhouse couple on the AQHA circuit. With over 35 years in the industry, the Searles are well known for producing a number of AQHA World CHampions, Quarter Horse Congress Champions, and NSBA Champions.

As the 2012 AQHA Professional Horsewoman of the Year and a recent inductee in the prestigious Quarter Million Dollar Club, Deanna Searles has won titles in Hunter Under Saddle, Senior Trail, and Western Riding events often on horses trained and owned with her husband and AQHA Professional Horseman, Jim Searles, under their All-Around training facility, Circle S Ranch.

- Western Events & English Under Saddle. We specialise in Trail, Western Riding, and Western Pleasure Futurities
How many years have you been riding?
- Both of us have +50 years of riding experience
How many years have you been with SmartPak?
- Over 10 years. We remember touring the SmartPak facility way back in 2012!
Where is your farm based out of?
- Scottsdale, Arizona
Favorite Horse Show Venue:
- How can we pick? We've had great experiences year after year at the NSBA World Championships, Silver Dollar Circuit Vegas, The Premier, WEC shows in Ocala, Florida, and The AQHA World Show.

The Good Stuff:

What's your favorite advice to give to young riders and professionals?
- "For up and coming professionals, honesty is always #1! It's not 'cool' advice, but we cannot stress enough how important it is to be professional in public and at home, to communicate with your customers, and to get advice on how to run a business. Plus, be sure to save for the future, learn about legal and liability issues, and read up on insurance coverage both property and medical. And know the Professional Horseman Code of Ethics."
Can you tell us about your proudest riding moment?
- Jim: "I'm grateful to have a few immediately come to mind. Winning my first AQHA World Championship is high up there, plus seeing both of our kids, Taylor & Trent, winning their first AQHA World Championships was a big highlight as was cheering on Deanna when she claimed both the AQHA World Championship and Reserve World Championships at the AQHA World Championships in Jr Western Riding a few years ago."
- Deanna: "Like Jim said, watching both of our kids be named to their first World Championships was an incredibly proud moment. Winning the AQHA World and Reserve world Champion in the same class on two different horses in the Jr Western riding a few years back definitely deserves a mention, too. And it was very exciting to win and SET the Arena Record at The 2023 AQHA World Championships in Sr Western Riding on KM Flat Out The Best!"
Do you have a favorite horse from your riding careers?
- Jim: "You guys are asking the tough questions! I've had way too many great ones, but my first WC I Gotta Good Name was a special one for me and Definitely Allocate Your Assets as well.
- Deanna: "Oh gosh, we've had so many great horses it's hard to choose. But, if I had to pick I'm going with our AQHA multi-million Dollar Sire Allocate Your Assets. We bought him as a 2 year old for Kathy Tobin. We've gotten to show, stand him as a stallion, raised his babies, and now show his babies, too! Plus, we got to be a part of seeing him grow as the Top Hunter English Stallion in our industry. He's been nominated for the NSBA & AQHA 2025 Breeding Class Hall of Fame. Fingers Crossed!"
